Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD: The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. . . "The word of the LORD you have spoken is good," Hezekiah replied. For he thought, "Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?" 2 Kings 20:16-19 [NIV]

In our self-centered world, it is difficult for us to think beyond ourselves. Sadly, most of us are like King Hezekiah who, when told of the judgment that God would inflict on Judah after his death, showed no concern about the future generations.

We must learn to think beyond ourselves. We must learn to think multi-generationally.

To think multi-generationally means that we must begin to invest in the next generation like the karate master Miyagi did in the movie Karate Kid.

We must learn to think big picture and long term.

Christian philosopher Dennis Peacocke expresses the truth of multi-generationally thinking in the statement: "If your vision can be fulfilled in your lifetime, your vision is too small. "

Sadly most of us are not taught to think multi-generationally, therefore we don't.

So what should we do? How do we learn to think and act multi-generationally?

As with everything in life, we need to trained. Do you want to be trained to live multi-generationally?
