In the book, Beyond Babel, the timeless universal principles required to build excellent organizations have been synthesized into a model called the Beyond Babel Model. One of the earliest group projects recorded in the Bible was the story of the tower of Babel in Genesis 11. This project was well conceived in many ways—the participants were unified in purpose, found a suitable location, used the best technology, and worked as a team. As a result, the project enjoyed a modicum of short-term success; but in the end, the project and its participants came under God's judgment because their motives were self-glorification, not the glorification of God. Any organization that wishes to enjoy long-term success must be aligned with God and His purposes. Only when our motives are pure before God can we be truly world-class and move Beyond Babel. In writing Beyond Babel, I did not begin by examining the historical data from organizations. Instead, I used the Scripture as my point of departure and then asked some tough questions while seeking to think holistically about how people and organizations should function under the Lordship of Christ. Certainly, my experience impacted my thinking, but I tried to base my understanding on Scripture and use examples from my own life and the lives of others to illustrate what, I believe, Scripture teaches.
Carol's Song contains inspiring stories of men and women who sought to live and lead from a Christian worldview. As a companion to Beyond Babel, Carol's Song is not an attempt to pragmatically validate Beyond Babel. It is a book that reveals results-based reality—a mark of how God’s universe works. Given that the Bible is the best revelation about God who is the Creator and Lord of all, it is the foundation for building a Christian worldview. Scripture reveals God to be the sovereign Creator, sustainer, and ultimate purpose of the existence of the universe. This means that God creates and rules with intent and purpose. From God’s perspective, there are no accidents. Everything happens in accordance with his will and to serve his purpose. This intimates that all humans and all organizations exist to serve God’s purpose. And God has given mankind biblical principles to guide us in discerning his will. One of these principles is the C4 Principle—a seminal principle of the Strategic Life Alignment (SLA) teaching.
This workbook is a companion to the SLA Seminar. The seminar presents a Christian view for how to find and fulfill the purpose of God for one’s life. Finding and fulfilling one’s life purpose is the best way to live a meaningful life in a universe created by a sovereign, intentional, and strategic Creator. |

Organizationally, applying biblically based timeless universal principles is essential for building enduringly excellent and profitable organizations. The Beyond Babel teaching presents a biblical model for building organizations based on these principles.
